A new luxury residential complex comprising two towers by award-winning local builders and developers GWH is set to become the latest addition to Newcastle’s skyline. Centrally located on Bull Street overlooking the city’s coastline, ERA Newcastle will house 281 high-end apartments including one, two or three bedrooms and resort-style amenities. Designed by internationally recognised Australian architects FK Australia, ERA is GWH’s third major residential project in Newcastle, following Aero in 2018 and Sky Residences in 2023 – both winners of the Master Builders Association’s Excellence in Building awards.
The award-winning team has crafted homes that will captivate both locals and buyers from afar. Shannon Hutton, manager of marketing and communications at GWH, says the company’s connection to Newcastle and the Hunter goes deeper than operating the business in the region for almost 30 years. “Our company directors grew up in the area and the majority of our staff, commercial and industrial clients, and residential purchasers have also come from the area,” Hutton said.
“Creating legacy in our region is deeply ingrained in the ethos of GWH. Some of our staff live in the buildings we’ve built, next door to our off-the-plan purchasers. Taking advantage of the incredible views, residents will benefit from the centrally-located homes.
"Our head office resides in our A-Grade commercial building Darby Plaza, surrounded by tenants who we share lifts and facilities with every day. We work and live and raise our families in the community we’re building for.” A much-loved destination known for its laidback coastal lifestyle, industrial heritage, cultural offerings and excellent transport links including light-rail, Newcastle has experienced significant price growth over the past five years.
In the past 12 months alone, unit prices have risen by 5.3%, according to REA Group’s PropTrack data. The shared spaces have been crafted to grow a strong and diverse community.
Inspired by the historic sandstone buildings found throughout the city, the building’s ground level will feature concrete and masonry finishes, timeless textures and designer landscaping. The two contemporary towers – comprising 14 and 15 floors – will provide contrast with expansive glazing and gentle curves. Bringing a new level of sophistication to Newcastle’s residential apartment offering, ERA is DA approved and will include 2000sqm of communal space, as well as an outdoor heated pool, gym, sauna and fitness studio.
Entertaining is a pleasure with outdoor dining space, BBQ areas, and all-weather function areas, plus two separate rooftop gardens with expansive vistas over Newcastle. Car spaces have been allocated to all apartments, while 20 EV charging stations and lockable bike storage are also available. As an iCIRT-accredited company, GWH has undergone rigorous and independent review processes to confirm its capability, capacity and willingness to deliver safe, compliant, durable and trustworthy buildings.
According to Hutton, the accreditation was achievable in part due to its unique vertically integrated company structure ensuring quality and timing assurance, and their longstanding strategic partnership with Hunter Construction Group. “There is no one else doing what we do in our region,” he said. “It provides us unprecedented transparency and the ability to plan, implement and maintain control of quality.
” “Our clear regional focus and history means we’ll be here long after those that have come to capitalise on the region’s growth move on again,” Hutton concluded. With rare three-bedrom apartments on offer, buyers will need to act fast. Due to overwhelming demand for three-bedroom apartments at Aero and Sky Residences, GWH has increased the proportion of three bedders at ERA to 35%.
In the Stage One release of 151 apartments, internal floorplans range in size from 50-53sqm (one bedroom), 82-89sqm (two bedroom) and 103-123sqm (three bedroom) – and Homebuyers can now visit the ERA Newcastle display suite. Prices start at $765,000 for one-bedroom homes, $895,000 for two bedrooms, and $1.4 million for three-bedroom residences.
Those wishing to secure an apartment pay a $1000 holding deposit followed by a 10% deposit once the contract is signed with the balance due on completion. Demolition of the site will commence in January 2025, with project completion scheduled for spring 2027..
