The Suva Magistrate’s Court has set a trial date for the case against former Acting Fiji Corrections Service Commissioner Salote Panapasa. Panapasa appeared before Magistrate Krishan Prasad on Thursday on two counts of abuse of office, along with an alternative charge of general dishonesty causing a loss. It is alleged that between August 1 and September 30, 2023, Panapasa while being employed as a civil servant in Suva, instructed officers to facilitate the use of building materials of the FCS for her private residence in Kinoya.
It is alleged that between August 1 and October 31, 2023, Panapasa instructed the Corrections officer to alter the weekly reports to justify the use of the building materials at her home. The matter was scheduled to hear the agreed facts; however, Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) lawyer Mary Takinana informed the court that she had been told by Panapasa’s lawyer that they had only agreed to two facts. This was her name and her position; the rest of the facts set by FICAC were disputed.
Both parties agreed to have the trial date set for June 23 to 27, next year. Her bail was extended. Feedback: Beranadeta@fijisun.
