Santner had been pivotal in putting New Zealand in the driving seat, taking seven wickets on day two in Pune, with his six-for as India were dismissed for 245 in their second innings netting him a match haul of 13 wickets in total. The Black Caps won the opening Test in Bengaluru by eight wickets with this defeat snapping India's streak of 18 successive home series wins stretching back to 2012.
