New York Jets legend Damien Woody has thrown his support behind Curtis Martin to take on an executive role and help the struggling NFL franchise bounce back. The Jets have had a tough season, with Robert Saleh being sacked as head coach and a failed trade to bring Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams to the team. After a loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 11 dropped their record to 3-8, general manager Joe Douglas also left the team.

The AFC East franchise is now on the hunt for both a new head coach and general manager in 2025. Calls are growing for Martin to be appointed President of Football Operations due to his deep understanding of the organisation. Aaron Rodgers' New York Jets in disarray as another top figure sacked NFL legend takes Jake Paul and Mike Tyson swipe in response to Bill Belichick NFL writer Gary Myers suggested that owner Woody Johnson could offer Martin a stake in the Jets to secure a deal, as the former running back has been considering ownership for some time and is a big fan of the Jets.

Martin, who is well respected in NFL circles, could be the ideal figurehead for the franchise, especially during this challenging reboot. The 51-year-old is also close friends with Bill Parcells, and could use the iconic former head coach as a sounding board while also taking on the task of hiring a new GM. Martin, known for his extensive NFL contacts and being part of commissioner Roger Goodell's inner circle, could play a crucial role in deciding the Jets' next head coach and resolving the Rodgers situation.

The Jets might need Martin's expertise due to Johnson's impending absence, as he is expected to be nominated as the ambassador to the United Kingdom by President-elect Donald Trump , just like in 2016. This means Johnson will hand over the Jets to his brother but wants to set the franchise on its latest overhaul before leaving. Johnson will be involved in the upcoming hiring round in the next few months, after which he will leave for his new responsibilities abroad.

Martin, a well-connected and respected figure, could bring about the necessary change in Florham Park. Martin was picked by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 1995 NFL Draft. After three seasons with the Pats, he joined the Jets where he spent the rest of his career.

A five-time Pro Bowl pick and a first-team All-Pro, Martin ranks sixth in total NFL rushing yards with 14,101 and 90 rushing touchdowns. The 51-year-old, considered one of the greatest running backs ever, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2012. The Jets, with a 3-8 record, are now on their bye week and will be hosting the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, December 1.
