Snow is set to fall in parts of the UK next week as temperatures drop from the current highs, new weather maps show. While many of us are enjoying summer-like temperatures this week, the weather will take a turn for the worse over the coming days. A cold front is set to replace this current hot spell, causing cooler temperatures as we move further into April, and even bringing with it the possibility of some snow.
A new map from weather forecaster Ventusky shows snowfall falling in parts of the UK, including Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and Bradford, falling on Sunday, April 20. (Image: Ventusky) What does the Met Office say? However, while the Met Office suggests that weather conditions will get worse, they do not mention snow. In their long-range forecast covering April 15 to April 24, the Met Office says: “Much more mixed weather conditions than of late, with low pressure systems and their associated areas of rain and showers often affecting the UK.
“The rain is likely to be heavy at times, and the showers, most frequently affecting western areas, will also be heavy and blustery in places, with isolated small hail and thunder. “There will also be some brighter, drier spells in between rain and showers, although probably large amounts of cloud too, with limited sunshine. “Unsettled, wet, and occasionally windy conditions are most likely during the first few days of this period; beyond this, and certainly into the following week, there is an increasing chance that cooler, northerly winds could develop, followed by a less unsettled spell.
” When will the nice weather end? Largely dry and fine conditions will continue for the vast majority on Friday, with plenty of sunshine and highs of around 23°C possible in southern England and Wales, the Met Office says. The far northwest of Scotland will start to see some rain and drizzle later in the day and overnight into Saturday as the UK’s weather starts to gradually transition to more unsettled weather. Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Mark Sidaway explained: “The high pressure that has been responsible for our recent high temperatures gradually shifts away over the weekend, as more of an unsettled regime begins to take charge and introduces more frequent rain and cloud, as well as a drop in temperatures.
“Those in the far northwest will see the first of the rain late on Friday and into Saturday, and while Saturday will start dry for much of the UK, we are likely to see areas of showers moving in from the south later in the day, although this aspect is still quite uncertain. “However, by Sunday fresher conditions with showers are expected to move in from the west.” Low pressure is likely to lie west of the UK into next week with showers and some longer spells of rain likely, but also some drier and sunnier intervals, with temperatures around average for the time of year.
