New Sioux City grocery store could be coming near downtown

SIOUX CITY -- The Sioux City Planning and Zoning Commission will consider a rezoning request that would allow for a grocery store at the former site of Casa Del Rey near downtown. According to the pre-agenda for the commission's Nov. 12 meeting, Lusio Torres wants property at 1303 and 1315 Douglas St.

to be rezoned from mixed use to general commercial. "The petitioner intends to operate a grocery store with alcohol and tobacco sales for off-site consumption," the pre-agenda stated. Restaurant matriarch Lupe Aguilar makes corn tortillas at Taqueria La Fogata in Sioux City.
