GaadiWaadi -Renault’s electrified line-up in India will initially include two electric cars and likely even at least two hybrid models, namely the Duster Hybrid and Bigster HybridFrench automaker Renault’s renewed focus on India will see it moving upmarket and re-entering premium segments. The company has confirmed the third-gen Duster and the first-ever Bigster for our market, and in a new development, it is looking at offering them even in hybrid variants.Renault is considering introducing hybrid technology in India, Venkatram Mamillapalle, the CEO and MD of the company’s local subsidiary said, as per a recent Autocar Professional report.
Renault is also evaluating range extender or series-hybrid technology, in which partner Nissan has plenty of experience, thanks to its e-Power line-up.People in the know of the developments at Renault say the company aims to develop a hybrid option for the Duster and Bigster within a year of their launch. Given this timeline, readily available hybrid powertrains would make more sense.

We’re yet to know whether Renault is looking at the same hybrid systems for India.The Dacia Duster Hybrid’s 1.6-litre engine produces 69 kW (92 hp) and 148 Nm of torque and works with an electric motor generating 35 kW (47 hp) and 205 Nm of torque.
The latter is powered by a 1.2 kWh battery pack. With 104 kW (139 hp) of combined power, the Duster Hybrid accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.
1 seconds and achieves a top speed of 160 km/h. According to WLTP, it consumes as little as 5.0 litres per 100 km, which converts to a fuel economy of 20 km/l.

However, the latter utilises a larger, 1.4 kWh battery pack. That could be the reason it is even more efficient, consuming as little as 4.
6 litres per 100 km (as per WLTP) and delivering a fuel economy of 21.7 km/l (as per WLTP), despite being bigger and heavier and employing a thirstier engine. Performance is better too, with 0 to 100 km/h coming in 9.
