New releases on disc include 'House of the Dragon' and 'Dune'

There is some entertaining holiday viewing available with these movies and shows recently released on disc. A popular series is HBO’s ”House of the Dragon” and now you can have the show’s second season on 4K Ultra HD, as well as Blu-ray and DVD. Based on George Martin’s Book ”Fire and Blood” this series is set 200 years before ”Game of Thrones.

” Season two sees House of Targaryen divided while civil war becomes a reality. Along with the second season — approximately 8.5 hours, this four-disc set includes more than four hours of bonus content, including interviews and ”extended versions of the eight-part featurette “The House That Dragons Built.



” This Blu-ray has more than an hour of bonus features including “Creating the Fremen World,” “Worm-riding,” “The Sounds of Dune” and more. “Dune: Part One” was a big hit in 2021, winning six Academy Awards. Now, “Dune: Part Two” is available on Blu-ray and 4K and DVD.

The story has Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) unite with Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen as he seeks revenge against those who destroyed his family. Also in the movie are Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista and Christopher Walken. Along with the approximately 2 3/4-hour movie, this Blu-ray has more than an hour of bonus features, including ”Creating the Fremen World,” ”Worm-riding,” ”The Sounds of Dune” — and more.

“Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice” is a fun second movie in the comedy horror franchise. While it has been 36 years since ”Beetlejuice” arrived on the big screen, several actors from the original returned for ”Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice,” including Michael Keaton (Beetlejuice), Winona Ryder (Lydia Deetz) and Catherine O’Hara (Delia Deetz). Joining them are new cast members such as Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe and Arthur Conti.

The fun continues with Keaton’s crude, creepy and hilarious character when Lydia’s teenage daughter, Astrid (Ortega) accidentally opens the portal to the afterlife after discovering the town model in the attic. While I enjoyed the first movie more, “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice” is a fun second movie in the comedy horror franchise. This Blu-ray contains more than two hours of special features (this movie is also available on 4K and DVD).
