New Regency, the famed four decades old production company, is set to see titles from its film library being turned into games within Epic Games’ “Fortnite” – all with the help of Snoop Dogg. Dogg’s Death Row Games label has struck a deal to adapt film titles for the popular platform. The games will be developed using Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) and have already begun with the launch of the first title this past Thursday.

That adaptation? A game based on Andrew Niccol’s 2011 sci-fi film “In Time” which starred Amanda Seyfried, Justin Timberlake and Cillian Murphy. The selection was a surprise considering the film was a critical flop and fared poorly domestically, but made good money overseas to more than quadruple its budget. That said, the basic premise of the film – time from one’s lifespan used as currency with a ticking clock on one’s arm counting down time to live, was well liked and does seem fairly adaptable for video games.

A press release indicates the title was a “natural fit for the dynamic UEFN platform”. New Regency chairman and CEO Yariv Milchan says in a statement: “We’re thrilled to be part of this exciting new era of innovation in gaming and storytelling alongside Death Row Games. The launch of ‘In Time’ marks the start of a groundbreaking journey into immersive storytelling.

We have long admired Snoop’s remarkable and varied body of work, his ongoing creative journey, and have deep respect for what he and Cordell are building at Death Row. This timely and exciting collaboration resonates with our ethos at New Regency.” New Regency boasts countless film titles in its library including “JFK,” “Copycat,” “Under Siege,” “Falling Down,” “Heat,” “L.

A. Confidential,” “Devil’s Advocate,” “Entrapment,” “Fight Club,” “Daredevil,” “Big Momma’s House,” “Jumper,” “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” “Love & Other Drugs,” “Marley & Me,” “12 Years a Slave,” “Gone Girl,” “Birdman,” “The Revenant,” “Widows,” “Ad Astra,” “The Lighthouse,” “Barbarian,” “The Creator,” and “The Bikeriders” among many others.
