The New Orleans Saints' offense has been decimated with injuries in 2024, a major reason why they lost seven straight games following a 2-0 start. Now the Saints have again won back-to-back games, and a major reason is due to interim head coach Darren Rizzi riding with the team's ultimate X-factor. Taysom Hill is a cult favorite among NFL fans due to his versatility, as he can play virtually any offensive position.
He's never been considered particularly great at any one skill, but rather an all-around Swiss army knife who does a little bit of everything. On Sunday, though, Hill's standout performance carried the Saints to victory. He rushed for 138 yards and three touchdowns, caught eight passes for another 50 yards, and even completed a pass for 18 yards (he also threw an interception on a second attempt, but we'll kindly look past that).
Hill's emergence these past few weeks makes perfect sense, when you think about it. Given that he can fill multiple holes in an offense, he's exactly what the Saints need in order to cover up for the team's injuries in both the running and receiving game. Rizzi realizes this, and is getting Hill involved as often as possible.
In two games since taking over, the interim head coach seems to have ignited new life into his squad with a push towards the NFC South title still not completely out of reach. If the Saints are going to keep up their momentum and make a run, Hill will need to be a big reason why..
