The first No. 1 movie of 2025 — Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson Jr.’s long-awaited heist movie sequel Den of Thieves 2: Pantera — is available on demand this week, and it’s arriving alongside a slew of other new releases hitting streaming that are worth your attention.

That includes Goodrich, a low-profile drama with an A-list cast in Michael Keaton and Mila Kunis, and Here , Tom Hanks’s reunion with his Forrest Gump co-star Robin Wright and director Robert Zemeckis. The steamy (and buzzy!) erotic thriller Babygirl, starring Nicole Kidman, comes home, as does Disney’s billion-dollar-grossing Moana 2. Is that a viable double feature? If you contain cinematic multitudes, absolutely! Here’s what to know about the theatrical movies newly available to stream as of this week and where you can find them.

Click on the links below to jump straight to a specific movie: Here Robert Zemeckis is one of the most prolific American directors still working today, but his recent output has been depressing, even for longtime fans of his work. His pop-culture paradigm-shifting credits date back to the ’80s, with the Back to the Future trilogy and Who Framed Roger Rabbit? through the ’90s with Forrest Gump and Contact. He kicked off the 2000s with Cast Away and, after that, became obsessed with pushing the boundaries of motion-capture animation technology.

Another mainstay throughout his career has been working with Tom Hanks, who stars in his latest work, Here. The film wasn’t just critically maligned but also a nonstarter at the box office , which is no surprise when you realize just how experimental it is: The entire movie takes place from a fixed perspective. The camera never moves from a single location in a house, and we see things change and life happen over time, from before the construction of the home through several generations of families that inhabit it and beyond.

It’s an ambitious conceit that is emotionally affecting — there’s something to the platitude of time flying by faster than we can appreciate in real time — but the form of the movie is limiting, despite its attempts to transcend those limitations. Zemeckis’s technological obsessions again rear their ugly heads, this time plural, as he deploys AI deepkfake technology to de-age his stars to depict different eras in their lives. The movie’s now available on Netflix, so if you’re already a subscriber, what have you got to lose? It’s worth seeing for yourself, because those who connect with the movie love it.

How to watch: Here is now streaming on Netflix . Watch on Netflix Goodrich Goodrich is the sophomore feature film from Hallie Meyers-Shyer, a name that may appear familiar because, yes, she is the daughter of legendary filmmakers Charles Shyer and Nancy Meyers. It’s a low-key drama starring Michael Keaton as the titular character, a workaholic father whose life is upended when his wife enters a rehab program, leaving him on his own with their young kids.

He winds up relying heavily on Grace (Mila Kunis), his daughter from his first marriage, as he learns to become the father that she never had, much to her frustration. The movie is a light, breezy watch with a couple of genuine moments that might make you tear up. It tackles arguably intense subject matter with humor, which helps some of the heavier ideas go down smoothly.

Keaton is always a joy to watch, and he really gets to stretch his legs here in a meaty role that purposefully harkens to his Mr. Mom days. Mila Kunis’s character may be a bit short-changed by a busy script, but the heart of that stuff is all in the right place.

Meyers-Shyer may not be as deft a filmmaker as her prolific parents quite yet, but it’s still early in her career. And if you enjoyed Goodrich, it would make a great double feature with her debut film, Home Again, starring Reese Witherspoon, which is also streaming on Max. Watch on Max Babygirl Babygirl may be an erotic thriller, but don’t sleep on how funny it is too. Half the joy is in watching these two characters dance with one another in such a way that both parties feel like they’re playing a part rather than feeling comfortable in their own skin. The movie is about a married woman, the CEO of a big Amazon-like company, having an affair with a young intern who works for her.

Yes, it’s hot and sexy when and where it needs it to be, but it’s also not afraid to be silly and playful, with some choice needle drops throughout. It’s also smarter than you might think, engaging with big ideas like communication in relationships and how some people can be married for a number of years and remain dishonest about their true sexual desires out of sheer embarrassment. There’s a vulnerability here that this movie gets at that is thorny and compelling — can your wildest fantasies coexist alongside your happy, white-picket-fence family existence? Nicole Kidman is fearless and sensational in the lead role , and Harris Dickinson is perfectly cast as the f***-boy intern who has her wrapped around his finger.

It’s one of the most exciting and provocative movies of the year. How to watch: Babygirl is now available to rent or purchase on Prime Video and other video-on-demand platforms . Rent or buy on Prime Video Den of Thieves 2: Pantera Gerard Butler returns as fan-favorite dirtbag Big Nick in Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, which arrives a cool seven years after the original heist movie became a cult hit due to its devotion and emulation of another beloved heist movie: Michael Mann’s 1995 staple of the genre Heat.

The original Den of Thieves ended up playing out like Heat by way of Ocean’s 11 , and this sequel plays more like Miami Vice or Ocean’s 12. Big Nick is still on the hunt for Donnie (O’Shea Jackson Jr.) after his escape at the end of the original film, and we see that it’s upended his life — the movie opens with him clutching divorce papers.

It’s not long before Big Nick heads abroad to Nice and, hilariously, teams up with Donnie to carry out a diamond heist. Can Nick’s heel-turn be trusted? The movie is a blast for the same reasons the original was — a killer committed performance from genre-king Butler and exciting, white-knuckle action/heist sequences, and the tension between Big Nick and Donnie, highlighting that the cops and robbers aren’t so different after all. This series may just be diet Heat , but a diet version of one of the best movies ever made sounds great.

They should make one of these every year. How to watch: Den of Thieves 2: Pantera is now available to rent or purchase on Prime Video and other video-on-demand platforms . Rent or buy on Prime Video Moana 2 Moana was such a breakaway hit on Disney+, even years after its initial release, that the company ended up rejiggering what was initially developed as a Disney+ streaming TV series into the feature-length theatrical sequel film instead.

That ended up being a brilliant business decision, as the sequel has grossed over $1 billion worldwide and counting. Moana 2 may not boast songs as memorable or catchy as the originals, which were written by Hamilton phenom Lin-Manuel Miranda, but given the circumstances of its release, the movie is a good enough follow-up to the terrific original. Occasionally, you may feel you’re watching several TV show plotlines strung together.

A villain character appears and then just as quickly disappears entirely, but your kids likely won’t notice that. It’s an inoffensive and fun adventure and is sure to keep your young ones at home entertained if they’re tired of the original Moana adventure.
