A new community-led project aimed at reducing waste and promoting sustainable living is set to launch at Ty Pawb in Wrexham, the first of its kind in North Wales. The initiative, called Lend & Mend, is backed by funding from the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund and developed through a partnership between Refurbs, Wrexham County Borough Council and a number of community and environmental organisations. Once open, the hub will allow residents to borrow everyday items such as tools, appliances and sports equipment for a small fee.
Organisers say the aim is to help people save money, cut waste and reduce unnecessary consumption. It will also host regular repair sessions, where volunteers help fix broken household items free of charge, and run up-cycling workshops to teach people how to repurpose old materials. Stewart Platt, Head of Commercial Services for Refurbs, described the hub as “more than a lending service”.
He said: “It’s a space to learn and share. Change starts locally, and we are here to help give people the tools and skills they need to live more sustainably.” In addition to offering lending and repair services, the hub is intended to foster community connections by encouraging skill-sharing and volunteer involvement.
The Lend & Mend hub has been developed with support from Benthyg Cymru, Repair Café Wales, Lend Engine, Groundwork North Wales and local volunteers. Residents interested in borrowing items or taking part in workshops can find more information or volunteer by emailing [email protected].
