A new gym is coming to Brighton’s city centre. Kings Gym is to open in the former Fitness First site on Queens Road. The new site offers members the use of over 100 pieces of equipment, as well as treatment rooms and recovery and rehab services.

The gym will also have an on-site store, changing rooms with showers, and offer personal training services. The Brighton venue will be the company’s second in Sussex, with a site on Haslett Avenue in Crawley. The gym prides itself on its “inclusive environment” and “world-class amenities”.

In a statement on their website, it says: “Kings has a strong community, and we are all here to support each other and reach our goals together". The windows have been painted white as work begins at the venue (Image: The Argus Staff) Monthly membership for the gym costs £45, with a day pass costing £10. The gym will open on weekdays from 5.

30am-11pm, and 7am-8pm on weekends. An opening date has not yet been set, but signage on the Queens Road property displays a link to access membership forms. In January, Fitness First closed down unexpectedly due to ‘circumstances beyond their control’.

In a statement at the time, Fitness First said: “We are disappointed that Fitness First Brighton will permanently close its doors on Tuesday 28th January, despite the company’s best efforts to work with the landlord to keep the club open. "This was a very difficult decision, and one that has not been made lightly. Unfortunately, circumstances beyond our control have left us no other option.

"Over the years, Fitness First Brighton has been a hub for health, wellness, and community, and we are deeply grateful for the loyalty and support our customers have shown us throughout this journey.” Members were given just over 24 hours notice of the closure and requested to collect any belongings from the site..
