New free water refill stations in city centre

Water refill stations have been installed in Worcester city centre to reduce the use of single use plastic bottles. Two new dispensers are available to use in Pump Street near the Methodist church and Broad Street, outside Chapel Walk, said Worcester City Council. The council said it funded the project to promote healthy lifestyles and encourage people to reuse water bottles.

Using the stations is free of charge, it added. Councillor Hannah Cooper, vice chair of the council’s place and economic development committee, said: “The new water refill stations are easy to spot and conveniently located in places where there is high footfall in our city. “We are also promoting the reuse of plastic bottles and reduction of single-use plastic, instead of people buying a new bottle of water every time.



” The council said Pump Street station's location was chosen due to its historical relevance. The street was named after the city's former public pump at the junction with The Shambles..
