This is the second order under the long-term supply contract announced in and the first order for 100 fuel cell modules under this contract. Delivery of the 200 new modules is scheduled for 2025. However, the framework agreement was concluded between Ballard and NFI, the parent company of New Flyer.
NFI also owns brands such as Alexander Dennis and MCI, which can also order fuel cells from Ballard via the contract. However, the 200 modules in the current order are intended exclusively for New Flyer, according to Ballard. New Flyer will install the Ballard modules in Xcelsior Charge FC buses, which will be used in California, Washington, Arizona, Nevada and New York, among other places.
The FCmove -HD+ fuel cell module has 100 kW and weighs around 250 kilograms. “We are thrilled to strengthen our partnership with Ballard and bring cutting-edge zero-emission fuel cell buses to the market,” said David White, Executive Vice President, Supply Management, NFI. “As more transit operators transition to zero-emission fleets, they are increasingly adopting fuel cell technology to meet their goals.
We are committed to supporting our customers through their journey to sustainability.” David Mucciacciaro, Ballard’s Chief Commercial Officer, added: ”This order demonstrates New Flyer’s continued confidence in the performance of Ballard’s fuel cell engines and the growing market interest in the value proposition of hydrogen fuel cell buses, including long range, rapid refueling times, performance in all weather conditions, and high availability.”.
