A brand new education centre in Grimsby 's East Marsh which will provide opportunities for thousands of young people has officially opened. Situated within Grimsby Neighbourhood Centre in Weelsby Street, IntoUniversity Grimsby will bring after-school academic support, mentoring with students and professionals and in-school activities and workshops to young people aged between seven and 18, in a partnership between education charity Into University, the University of Hull and the University of York. At a special opening event on Wednesday, the ribbon was cut by local students who are set to benefit from the centre for the next academic year and beyond, with some of them delivering speeches.
Into University currently supports more than 56,000 young people a year at their 44 centres nationwide. According to statistics, 58 percent of students who attend the centres go on to progress to university, compared to 29 percent of students from similar backgrounds nationally. In the East Marsh the local progression rate into higher education is just 14 percent, compared to 44 percent of students nationally.
