An academy trust which governs a number of schools in Bolton has announced the appointment of a new chief executive officer. Northern Education Trust has appointed Jane Wilson to take over from Rob Tarn CBE, who will leave his post on March 31, 2025. Ms Wilson, who joined the trust in 2018 as deputy chief executive officer, will officially assume her new role on April 1, 2025.

She has previously served as deputy director for the regional schools commissioner and has experience as a senior leader, headteacher, executive headteacher, chief executive of a multi-academy trust, a National Leader of Education (NLE), and a lead inspector for Ofsted. Since joining the trust, Ms Wilson has played a 'key role' in its transformation, particularly in the primary phase, where she has 'significantly improved outcomes'. Mark Sanders OBE, chair of the board of trustees, said: "I am extremely pleased that Jane has accepted the position.

"Her promotion is testament to her hard work and commitment and is thoroughly deserved. "I am certain that she will move the trust forward with the same enthusiasm that Rob has been able to, and the board is confident that the trust will continue to go from strength to strength under Jane’s leadership." Ms Wilson said: "I feel tremendously honoured to be given the opportunity to lead the trust on the next stage of our journey.

"There are so many talented individuals who work for us, and I know that together we can continue to achieve the very best for our students. "We have accomplished so much, but we will not become complacent and must maintain and build on our success by ensuring every decision we make is in the best interest of the children and young people we serve." Kearsley Academy and Essa Academy is among the local schools which form part of Northern Education Trust.
