The New Castle Area School Board said goodbye to one of its members, whose last meeting was Tuesday. Marco Bulisco, who has served on the board for more than two years, resigned from his seat because he and his family are moving to Shenango Township. A New Castle firefighter, Bulisco will continue to be employed with the New Castle Fire Department and as president of the firefighters union.
The school board has 30 days to appoint someone to Bulisco's vacant seat, and that person appointed will serve until Dec. 31, when a board member will be elected in the 2025 primary and general elections. Anyone interested in serving on the school board is asked to send a letter of interest to Dawn Mozzocio, secretary to the superintendent, at dmozzocio@ncasd.

30. The school district placed a public notice for the position in Tuesday's legal ad section of the New Castle News. Story continues below video District Solicitor Charles Sapienza explained the board declared a vacant position and can appoint a member of the community.
After receiving letters of interest, the board will interview the candidates publicly and will select a candidate in an open meeting. No executive sessions are allowed, he said. If the board does not appoint someone to the position within 30 days, district constituents can petition the court to appoint someone to fill the vacancy, Sapienza explained.
Superintendent Dr. Gregg Paladina said that when the first motion was made to accept Bulisco's resignation, no one seconded it. "They didn't want him to go," he said.
Then the board had to ask for a motion again and it was seconded and passed. Paladina and Panella both thanked him publicly for his service..
