Combining the skills of a barista and a florist has led to Melton’s newest café and florist. The doors of Lily and Latte Café at 62 Palmerston Street have finally opened, with a mother-and-daughter duo running the business.Zahraa Arslan and her mum, Maha Alexander, put their heads together and started a business based on what they love doing—serving coffee and flowers.

“We thought of starting a business and said, ‘Why not combine both talents together?’” Ms. Arslan said. “If people just want to have a coffee, they might want flowers as well, and we have both here.



”So far, the new café in Melton has attracted a lot of attention, with some customers lucky enough to receive free coffees on their opening day, Sunday, March 30.Ms. Arslan and Ms.

Alexander, who are originally from Iraq, are bringing some Middle Eastern spice and cuisine to their menu. They will be serving a variety of hot food, such as Middle Eastern pastries like manakeesh, sandwiches, croissants, muffins, and sweet treats.Ms.

Arslan said the response from the community has been amazing so far.“I’ve been surprised this week, as I was nervous about opening a business because I didn’t know what the response would be like,” she said. “I’ve worked a lot in Melton as a barista, and everything was getting quiet in the area, but so far, it has been really good.

”Lily and Latte Café is open Monday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.
