The Indian government has launched a new Aadhaar mobile app that enables users to digitally authenticate and share their Aadhaar details without physical cards or photocopies. Users can simply scan these codes using the app, enabling instant facial verification and secure ID sharing directly from their phones, eliminating the need for photocopies. The minister stated, “Aadhaar verification becomes as simple as making a UPI payment. Now with just a tap, users can share only the necessary data, giving them complete control over their personal information.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized that users no longer need to hand over Aadhaar photocopies, reducing the risk of misuse. He further added, “No need to hand over Aadhaar photocopy at hotel receptions, shops or during travel”. Currently in its beta phase, the app offers strong privacy safeguards, ensuring that all data sharing is user-controlled and tamper-proof.
Vaishnaw described Aadhaar as the foundation of India’s digital public services and positioned the new app as a key part of the country’s expanding Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). He also invited technologists and businesses to collaborate in integrating AI with DPI solutions, while maintaining privacy as a central pillar of innovation..
