Greta Gerwig, known for her Barbie film where Ryan Gosling 's Ken character challenges "the patriarchy" is now set to direct Netflix's inaugural Chronicles of Narnia movie. The streaming giant plans to adapt all the books in chronological order, starting with The Magician's Nephew. Penned by Christian author CS Lewis, these fantasy tales are replete with Biblical metaphors, including Aslan the Great Lion, a symbol for Jesus Christ.
However, Deadline has reported that Meryl Streep is potentially voicing the beloved male character, Aslan, sparking outrage among moviegoers who view this as an attempt at making a woke film . Social media users have been quick to express their dismay, with one humorously suggesting: "Who's playing the Ice Queen, Brad Pitt?" Others voiced more serious concerns, with comments like "They're destroying Narnia on purpose. Another wrote: " and "Aslan is a representation of Christ - he's male.
Hollywood truly despises Christians." A third user pointed out: "Aslan is not 'generally portrayed' as a male. He is a male.
", reports the Express . One more added: "Hollywood's insistence on endless narrative/cultural subversion is simple yet baffling self-destruction." Gerwig's appointment as director had already raised eyebrows among fans due to her history of altering original narratives to fit a progressive agenda.

The Chronicles of Narnia books, particularly " The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe ," have been challenged and banned in some instances due to concerns about "graphic violence, mysticism, and gore," as well as perceived anti-Christian or "politically incorrect" themes, according to Newberry College. In 2018, the streaming platform said it would develop new series and film projects based on The Chronicles of Narnia series and brought Greta on board in 2020 to adapt and direct the first movie.
