Netflix users are being urged to tune into a new mini-series based on a heart-wrenching real-life event . The Breakthrough has been creating quite a stir on the streaming service and across the internet, despite having been released four months ago. Starring Peter Eggers, Mattias Nordkvist and Jessica Liedberg, the show explores a double murder that took place in Linköping, Sweden, in 2004.
The case was finally cracked after 16 years thanks to the work of a genealogist. EccyReviews, a TikTok user , discussed the series on their channel, saying, "Netflix have just added a brand new limited series that is actually based on a true story." They added, "I've just finished binge watching all four episodes.
It's definitely the next thing you should check out. It's already trending on Netflix." Back in the early 2000s, the small city of Linköping was rocked by a double homicide committed in broad daylight.
A child and a woman in her late 50s were savagely stabbed to death in the attack. However, with no clear motive or suspect, the case eventually went cold. Almost two decades later, the police made headway when a genealogist got involved.
The series was directed by Lisa Siwe (The Bridge) and penned by Oskar Söderlund (Snabba Cash). Speaking about the series, Siwe told Netflix, "Though this is a fictional drama series about a crime, it is, above all, a depiction of a human tragedy - where we place our focus on the victims and the investigation rather than the perpetrator." She continued, "It's a story about the compassion and care for one another that is needed to move on when terrible things happen.
" The series is inspired by a book of the same name, written by journalist Anna Bodin and genealogist Peter Sjölund. Screenwriter Söderlund shared his thoughts with Netflix, "When I read the book The Breakthrough, I was struck by the fact that there was such strong human destinies behind this massive murder investigation: police officers who refuse to give up, relatives who wanted answers and last but not least the genealogist who finally came up with the solution." He continued, "In the midst of this tragedy, there are people who refuse to give up, who're struggling to move on and whose whole life is marked by what happened.
" Social media reactions to a TikTok video about the series have been overwhelmingly positive, with one user commenting, "I just saw this. It was great." Another user praised the show, saying, "Watched it fantastic .
. now I'm watching Hounds Hill." A third user also expressed their approval, noting, "It's really interesting and not too bad with the dubbing.
