Netflix subscribers are already obsessed with this heartwarming new comedy you don’t want to miss. The new series was already released to Canadian audiences on the CBC network back in January and quickly developed a devoted following. However, international viewers will finally get the chance to catch up now it’s become available on Netflix this Thursday (April 10).
North of North centers on Siaja (played by Anna Lambe), a young Inuk woman who married and became a mother shortly after graduating high school. Following a messy and very public separation from her husband, Ting (Kelly William), she tries to reinvent herself with some help from her friends and family in their tiny, Arctic town of Ice Cove. Mary Lynn Rajskub co-stars as the town’s manager, Helen, along with Keira Cooper as Siaja’s daughter, Bun, and Maika Harper as her mother, Neevee.
The eight-part comedy series has already proved a hit amongst Canadian fans, thanks to its fresh comedic storylines and accurate portrayal of Indigenous communities in Northern Canada. A rave, five-star Google review reads: “This show is truly beautiful. Watching it made me realize how little representation there has been for Indigenous peoples, especially for those in the North.
“It is incredible to see a show with a majority Indigenous cast, set in the North, and actually centred around Indigenous culture and language. This is one of my all time favourite shows and we're only six episodes in! “I am so grateful to everyone who was a part of this for creating something that was long overdue.” The fan concluded: “I hope we get many more seasons of this show and that we get more film and television that authentically represents Indigenous communities, their cultures, and their languages!” Another ecstatic write-up said: “I adore Anna Lambe as the main character Siaja as she navigates finding her way in life and seeing the confidence she develops over the season.
“Really hoping that the show is renewed. This show was an absolute breath of fresh air and I can’t wait to see where it goes.” “This show was sooo Canadian and felt so representative to our culture and also lack thereof,” someone else wrote.
“This story is one to remember and I can't wait to follow them along for hopefully a second season.” The series was also picking up a huge response on Reddit, with one viewer pleading: “I screamed at my TV when I saw this was the season finale. There had better be a season 2, this show was too good not to continue!” And someone else promised: “Season 2!! I'll be re-bingeing as soon as it hits Netflix.
” Plenty of fans are already hopeful the story will continue, so make sure to check out this promising comedic gem now it’s streaming on Netflix. North of North is available to stream on Netflix..
