The vegan version of the chocolate bar - called KitKat V - was first launched in 2021. Crafted with rice-based milk alternatives and made using 100% certified sustainable cocoa, it aimed to replicate the original KitKat experience while reducing its environmental impact. The vegan version of the product has a carbon footprint 18% lower than its original counterpart.
The dairy-free chocolate had reportedly been unavailable in stores and online for a while, and Nestlé has now confirmed that V has been discontinued worldwide, with the exception of the UK, due to declining sales. In a statement to , Nestlé said: "We know that KitKat Vegan has been popular for those looking for dairy or vegan alternatives. "Unfortunately, global demand has been reducing to the point that production was making manufacturing more and more complex and we have now made the difficult decision to discontinue the product.
"We know there will be some disappointment, however, it will still be available in the UK and Ireland until the summer.” Nestlé acknowledged that the vegan chocolate segment remains a niche market, with traditional chocolate products continuing to dominate consumer preferences. The spokesperson added: “Our emphasis with the KitKat brand for the foreseeable future will be on classic chocolate variants, as they continue to be the preferred choice among consumers.
" Some fans took to social media to share their disappointment as KitKat V is set to be discontinued. One person took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to post: "cant believe the vegan kitkat has been discontinued this is devastating". Similar sentiments were shared by someone replying to that post, as they said: "What?? I liked it more than the regular kitkat".
Meanwhile, another wrote: "nah the vegan kitkat is being discontinued?! why are we going backwards". One expressed annoyance at the number of vegan chocolate options disappearing in recent years, as they shared: "Just heard they might be stopping production of vegan kit kats in the UK and honestly man I'm so tired of vegan options getting more and more limited recently". Another directly tagged the KitKat X account, as they said: "@KITKAT just read the the #vegankitkat will be discontinued.
