Nelson Police said an officer attended the scene to make sure that there was no one in need of assistance. "The complainant directed him to the thing he had seen in the water, which turned out to be a pair of blue tie down straps that had become lodged under a rock," Nelson Police said. "While the presence of mermaids in Cottonwood park cannot be ruled out for certain, the Nelson Police have concluded this file.
