Nelson Police called to investigate mermaid sighting (Nelson)

Photo: file photo Nelson Police went over and above the call of duty in solving the case of a mermaid in the falls at Cottonwood Park. Nelson Police dispatch received a call on Tuesday, Oct. 1 from a man believed to have seen a mermaid, possibly wearing suspenders, repeatedly waving from inside Cottonwood Falls.

Nelson Police said an officer attended the scene to make sure that there was no one in need of assistance. "The complainant directed him to the thing he had seen in the water, which turned out to be a pair of blue tie down straps that had become lodged under a rock," Nelson Police said. "While the presence of mermaids in Cottonwood park cannot be ruled out for certain, the Nelson Police have concluded this file.
