Home | Nelson Mandela Bay to restore electricity to affected areas The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality in the Eastern Cape says it is expecting to permanently restore electricity supply in areas affected by power outages in the Metro. Residents of the Metro have been experiencing sporadic power outages following the disruptive rain that hit the Metro last week. Ageing infrastructure has been cited as the root cause of the problem.

Member of the Mayoral Committee for Infrastructure and Engineering, Khanya Ngqisha says wet surfaces resulted in the delay in restoring the power supply. “We are almost there. 90% of the problem is complete.

We believe that power will be restored in all those areas. We are ensuring that the ground is dry so that it is safe. We can be able to restore 100 percent of the electricity that has affected particular areas.

” Meanwhile, the residents say the power outages have caused inconvenience in their daily life routine. Community leader Reverand Tamsanqa Nkevu says the matter has been frustrating for community members. “They have been forced to do without electricity and water for days.

As a result, it is difficult to cater for sick people. It has had a negative impact. It was felt more by learners who were forced to sit at home during exam time.
