The aftermath sees Paul step in to help Terese cover up her guilt, but he's horrified to realise that she's drinking again. In follow-on scenes next week, Paul updates Terese on his dedicated efforts to keep her out of trouble. These include taking Terese's car for repair and checking the crash site to make sure there's no evidence left which could link the incident to her.
Terese frets that she isn't in the clear yet, as Vera Punt is determined to find out who has been hiding empty wine bottles in her bin. She also points out that caught her drinking at the recent Boylesque event, making him another person who could expose her relapse and potentially connect it to the accident. After taking time to reassure Terese that the police won't catch her out, Paul questions her on when she started drinking again.
Terese confirms that it was a couple of weeks ago, leaving Paul mortified as he realises that the dates match with his decision to stop taking her calls.
