Pune: The Uttamnagar police arrested a Warje resident (24) on charges of kidnapping and raping an 11-year-old girl residing in his neighbourhood. They also arrested his friend, along with the owner and the manager of a hotel near Khadakwasla Dam, on charges of abetment and providing a room without verification. Police said the survivor belongs to a family of casual workers, while her neighbour and his friend are daily wage workers.

Inspector Nilesh Badakh of Warje police told TOI, "On Friday morning, the girl's parents and elder brother left for work, leaving her and her sister at home. The same afternoon, their neighbour called the girl outside her house and told her to accompany him on a bike, driven by his friend, for an outing. The unsuspecting girl got on the motorcycle, and they took her to the hotel where her neighbour raped her.

" When the girl's parents did not find her at home or in the neighbourhood after they returned from work, they reported the matter to the police after looking for her. The police tracked the suspect's cellphone location to the hotel and rescued the girl from the room. "We checked the hotel's records and realised that the hotel manager had given the suspects a room without verification.

The hotel manager and owner neglected the rules of maintaining a register and checking the ID cards of the guests. They allowed the suspect to hire have the room without verifying their relationship and the girl's age," Badakh said. During the questioning, the suspect told the police that he wanted to take the girl to his native place in Uttar Pradesh from the hotel.
