Nebraska wines claim top honors at International Cold Climate Wine Competition

Prairie Creek Vineyard and Winery of Central City was among several Nebraska wineries taking awards during the 2024 International Cold Climate Wine Competition. This professionally judged competition featured more than 340 wines from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Colorado, New York, Nebraska and Maine. Prairie Creek earned silver awards for its “Carmel Apple Sangria” and “Red Stiletto,” and a bronze award for “Marquette.

” The awards were announced by the Nebraska Winery and Grape Growers Association. Each wine was tasted by a panel of three judges, scoring each wine independently and then forming a consensus for score and metal award, gold, silver or bronze. Other Nebraska wineries earning awards were: Niobrara Valley Vineyards of Nenzel: Best of Show White Blend and Best of Class for “Boss Cow”; and two silver awards for “Brianna” and “Petite Pearl.



” Cellar 426 Winery of Ashland: Best of Class Red Blend for “Apollo’s Blend” and Best of Class-Other White for “Bluejay” (Edelweiss); gold for “Big Bold Red” (Frontenac); silver for “Two Hearts 2 Souls,” “Linoma Lighthouse,” “ Summer Blush” and “Reserve Petite Pearl”; and bronze for “Tickled Pink” and “Reserve Marquette” Nissen Family Vineyards of Hartington: Silver for “Reserve White”; and bronze for “Brianna” and “Strawberry Zen.” Junto Winery of Seward: Silver awards for “Amity” and “Edelweiss.” Sponsored by the Minnesota Grape Growers Association and the University of Minnesota Enology Research and Breeding Program, the International Cold Climate Wine Competition recognizes the top wines in the Cold Climate wine industry.
