Lexi Rodriguez beat out some of the biggest names in college sports — including Cooper Flagg and Ashton Jeanty — to join an exclusive group of Sullivan Award winners.

Former Nebraska volleyball player Lexi Rodriguez joined an exclusive club Tuesday when she was named the winner of the 2024 AAU James E. Sullivan Award. Rodriguez was selected at a New York ceremony that was broadcast live on ESPN+.

She beat out some of the biggest names in college sports, including Duke's Cooper Flagg and Boise State's Ashton Jeanty. The award is annually distributed to "the most outstanding athlete at the collegiate or Olympic level in the United States." Nebraska assistant Jaylen Reyes and former player Kennadi Orr were on-hand to celebrate with Rodriguez, a four-time All-American at Nebraska.

Former winners of the Sullivan Award include Caitlin Clark (2022 and 2023), Tim Tebow (2007), Michael Phelps (2003), Peyton Manning (1997) and Carl Lewis (1981). Rodriguez is only the third volleyball player to win the award in its history, which dates back to 1930. She just wrapped up her first season as a pro for LOVB Omaha on Sunday.
