MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-The National Development Party (NDP) National Executive Committee (NEC) on Saturday resolved and mandated its party’s leadership to go ahead with negotiations regarding political alliances ahead of the September 16, 2025 general elections.In a communique, signed by the party’s secretary general Wakuda Kamanga, NEC has granted explicit authority to the leaders to engage in the political negotiations with immediate effect.“This mandate includes the freedom to initiate, lead and participate in discussions and negotiations aimed at establishing strategic political alliances, coalitions, or partnerships with political parties and formations that share the values and vision of NDP,” reads the communique in part.
It adds that the decision was driven by NEC’s commitment to strengthening the party’s role in shaping the national political agenda and advancing inclusive and democratic governance.Among others, NEC instructed the party leadership to “conduct all negotiations in a manner that upholds the party’s integrity, transparency, and accountability; provide timely updates to the NEC on the progress and direction of such engagements as well as submit any proposed alliance or coalition agreement to the NEC for final ratification before execution.”Last week, NDP president Frank Mwenifumbo hinted that he would call for a NEC meeting following a public outcry on political coalitions.
