AN UNLICENSED aesthetician was arrested during an operation by the National Bureau of Investigation in Central Visayas (NBI 7) for allegedly conducting unauthorized beautification procedures that resulted in infections. The suspect, identified as Roel Fernandez Bacus, also known as Mommy Debs, 57, is a resident of Barangay Basak Pardo, Cebu City. The NBI 7 conducted an entrapment operation on Wednesday, Dec.
11, 2024, after receiving complaints from three individuals who claimed to have been victims of a |fake aesthetician. The suspect was arrested while performing the procedures inside a hotel in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City. Investigation showed that the victims paid P20,000 each for a hip enhancement procedure.
However, infections developed in the injected areas following treatments on Oct. 2 and 11 and Dec. 10, 2024.
NBI’s investigation revealed that Bacus had allegedly been conducting such procedures for three to four years. Most of the clients were beauty pageant contestants and individuals referred through acquaintances. NBI 7 Director Rennan Augustus Oliva said the suspect presented himself as a licensed medical practitioner specializing in aesthetic surgery.
But Bacus failed to present a license when apprehended. Agents confiscated medical instruments, aesthetic equipment, and items such as silicone gel and massage oils. When asked by reporters, the suspect refused to comment on the allegations.
Bacus will face charges for illegal practice of medicine and estafa. Oliva advised individuals to verify the legitimacy of aesthetic centers and professionals before undergoing procedures. He warned against availing of services in hotels or through social media referrals, especially those with suspiciously low prices.
