
Surat: A 25-year-old Navy personnel was booked for allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a woman under the false promise of marriage . The woman also accused him and his father of making casteist remarks against her as she belongs to a Scheduled Caste (SC). The Sarthana police registered a case against the accused under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to sexual intercourse by deceitful means, criminal intimidation, and provisions of the SC-ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
According to the complaint, the accused, who claimed to be a gunner in the Navy, met the woman two years ago through a mutual female friend. They initially connected on social media, exchanged phone numbers, and later met at Surat railway station when he visited from his native place in Saurashtra. As their relationship progressed, they allegedly became physically intimate at various hotels in Surat and Daman.
They had even decided on a wedding date, but as it approached, the accused backed out, citing her caste as the reason. He allegedly threatened her with serious consequences if she insisted on marriage. When the woman confronted his father, he too allegedly hurled casteist slurs at her.
She initially approached Kadodara police, but the case was later transferred to Sarthana police station. "We are verifying the allegations and tracking the accused. Sections related to rape may also be added," said the assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Vipul Patel.
The woman claimed that the accused had symbolically married her by exchanging garlands in Vrindavan. Later, upon learning that he was engaged to another woman, she confronted his fiancée via video call and revealed their relationship. Following this, the fiancée reportedly called off the engagement.
The police have booked the accused under BNS sections 69, 351(3), and 54, along with the Atrocities Act..
