NatWest is closing branches across the UK in 2025, and 19 are set to close next month. NatWest said this is due to a shift in customer behaviour. The bank reported a 62% decline in in-person transactions between 2019 and 2024, while mobile app usage increased by 53% during the same period.
The NatWest Group shut down 48 branches in 2024 and in 2023. These closures have been particularly concentrated in regions such as the North West of England, Yorkshire, the East Midlands, and the North East. NatWest, which serves over 19 million customers, reports that more than 3.
5 million people now use online banking A NatWest spokesperson previously said: "Banking has changed dramatically in recent years, with an increased demand for mobile and online services, as our customers benefit from a faster and easier way to bank. "We know it can affect those less confident with alternatives we offer. We'll always work hard to guide and support you through the changes and find the best way to serve you from now on.
" NatWest is just one of many high street banks reducing their branch networks recently. Lloyds Banking Group, which includes Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland, is also closing 136 branches across the UK between 2025 and March 2026 - a move that was driven by the growing shift toward online banking and the declining demand for in-person services.
