As part of its commitment to ensure that women are equipped with the right information and tools to care for their natural hair, Natures Gentle Touch has empowered young women on practical ways of caring for their hair in a way that suits their individuality and personal style. The quarterly workshop which took place at the Institute’s office in Ikeja provided participants with expert-led sessions addressing the challenges and solutions associated with maintaining natural hair, as well as the long-term benefits of embracing their natural texture. The expert addressed issues around natural hair care and charged the participants on how to care for their hair.
Chijioke Anaele, CEO of Recare, the parent company of Natures Gentle Touch, said that the workshop is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), to further live up to its vision of empowering individuals through education and knowledge sharing. Anaele, noted that the forum is a platform designed to support Nigerian women who choose to wear their natural hair. “This is the first for this year; we organise this workshop to celebrate women.
As a brand we preach natural hair, we have other products that cater for relaxed hair but what we preach is natural hair, we believe that you can be comfortable and beautifully carry your natural hair around, as you wish,” The expert charged the participants that deep conditioning is important in maintaining natural hair, and that maintaining natural hair must be intentional and be done regularly, but washing the hair at least once or twice a week. “Treatment of dandruff requires the right product and a consistent technique. If the treatment is weekly, the product has to be applied six times, once every week to complete dandruff treatment.
If done once in two weeks, then, the product has to be applied every two weeks until the sixth time to complete treatment. “At Natures Gentle Touch we are at the forefront of discouraging constant use of hair extensions, synthetic attachments and wigs. The reason is that these hair extensions put pressure on the scalp and hair, thereby causing breakage and damage to the hair.
If one must braid, it should be taken down after a maximum time of two weeks. The hair should be treated and deep conditioned to restore moisture and strength. Some of the participants in an interview appreciated the organisers for the workshop, saying it is an eye opener and that they now understand that there are specific routines to follow for better results.
Raliat Shaibu, said that she is not new to the products, but that she got to know about the workshop through social media. “I made up my mind this year to care more for my hair, so when I got to know about this workshop I was so happy, that is why I joined this training and I am now better informed.” Also Kekama Lamis, an intern, appreciated the organizer, stressing that she now knows better on how to take care of her natural hair, that the training is an eye opener.
