The building society is paying out £50 bonuses to millions of its customers during April as part of its "Big Thank You" initiative. But some accounts will receive £100.

Nationwide has delighted customers by handing out a surprise £100 double bonus payment to select accounts. As part of its "Big Thank You" campaign, the renowned building society began issuing £50 bonuses to millions of customers this April. Many have already seen the cash boost since Wednesday, April 9.

Yet, some fortunate account holders find their bank balances even plumper with £100 double bonuses. The extra cash applies to joint accounts shared between partners who have mortgages or savings with Nationwide . Since it's one account used by two people, both members are rewarded with the bonus.

Eagle-eyed customers have been pleasantly meeting with an unexpected £100 credit, with more than 12 million eligible for the bonus. Although payouts may continue until April 30, some may still be left waiting for the extra funds. Only those who possessed a savings or current account or a mortgage as of last September - and met certain transactional or balance conditions in the prior twelve months - are deemed qualifying candidates.

Importantly, they must still be registered as Nationwide customers currently. CEO Debbie Crosbie said: "It's another of the very real benefits of being a member of Nationwide and our modern mutual model.".
