LAHORE - The National Volleyball Championship is set to commence on April 4 in Wah Cantt, featuring 14 teams, including powerhouses Army and Wapda. Meanwhile, in a significant development for regional volleyball, India has confirmed its participation in the Central Asian Volleyball League, where it will compete alongside professional players from Thailand, Oman, Iran, Korea, Belgrade, and Kazakhstan. Chaudhry Muhammad Yaqoob, Chairman of Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF), shared details of these upcoming events during a press conference in Lahore.
He announced that the teams in the National Championship have been divided into four groups, with matches to be played in a round-robin league format. The grand final is scheduled for April 10. He also highlighted that players who showcase exceptional performances will be given opportunities to represent Pakistan in upcoming international tournaments.
Emphasizing the sport’s growing momentum, Yaqoob noted that Pakistan’s international volleyball calendar is packed this year. To bolster preparations, the federation has enlisted three foreign coaches, including Iranian coach Rehan Muhammadi, to train both junior and senior teams. He pointed out that Pakistan’s volleyball team has made significant strides on the international stage, demonstrating notable progress.
British champ Rahat Shah reveals expert tips for year-round fitness “Our ultimate goal is to qualify for the Olympics, but this demands relentless effort and top-tier performances,” Yaqoob asserted. “Pakistan has no shortage of talent, but greater support from the government and sponsors is essential. The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has assisted in setting up training camps for both the men’s and women’s teams, and we now look forward to their support in covering expenses for international competitions,” he concluded.
