Champion jockey Nash Rawiller believes Terra Mater could be worth a shot at the $1 million Newcastle Herald Hunter (1300m) in November after her stylish win in the $250,000 group 3 Tibbie Stakes (1400m) at the Broadmeadow track on Friday. Login or signup to continue reading Starting a $3.40 favourite after her slashing finish to win the listed Mona Lisa Stakes (1350m) at Wyong two weeks earlier, Terra Mater enjoyed a gun run just off leader Overriding before Rawiller asked for an effort approaching the final furlong.

The five-year-old mare quickly took over before holding off Chris Waller-trained Roots by two-thirds of a length for her biggest win. Rawiller was excited about what was next for Terra Mater over the spring but he had an eye on The Hunter. "I know The Hunter is a long way away, and she may be past staying up that long, but that would be a nice race for her at the end of carnival if she's still going as strong as she is," Rawiller said.

Warwick Farm trainer Jarrod Austin's immediate focus was on a potential trip to Melbourne. "We threw a sneaky nom in for the Epsom but there's also a nice fillies and mares race over the carnival in Melbourne, so we might go there," Austin said. "But we had these three races planned out for the beginning of her prep and to come through them with a second, first, first was probably over what we were expecting, so that's fantastic.

" "What a ripper she is. We came here with a bit of confidence. She came through her Mona Lisa run really well, but very hurdle we give her she just jumps it easily, so just a really great feeling.
