SHAWNEE, Okla. (KFOR) — Three new Narcan vending machines are now available to provide free overdose prevention medication to the Shawnee community.On Thursday, the Citizen Potawatomi Nation announced the new machines purchased by the tribe with the help of a federal opioid relief grant.
“It’s much like any other vending machine; you just select the number. For example, if it’s 22, just type 22 into the machine and then it will vend you out a box of Narcan and you just grab it and go on your way,” said Chad Stieben with the CPN Medical Education Department.Allergy alert issued for ‘very high’ tree pollen countsNarcan, otherwise known as naloxone, is a medication used to reverse the life-threatening effects of opioids and prevent overdose deaths.
The CDC has a fact sheet about how and when to use Narcan that you can find here.The vending machines can be found in Shawnee at FireLake Discount Foods, FireLake Entertainment Center, and the Grand Casino Hotel & Resort.Stieben says the vending machine at the FireLake Entertainment Center will eventually be moved when the new casino is finished.
