Brinkmann is Namibia’ sole representative at the event in which more than 5 500 triathletes from 79 nations across several age-groups bring months of hard work, training and passion to the start line. The championship finals is the pinnacle of the World Triathlon annual calendar, crowning the world champions for elite, under-23, junior, Para-triathlon, and age group world championships for sprint and standard distance, as well as the mixed relay world championships for junior/under-23s, Para-triathlon and age-group. “I’m feeling good and excited,” Brinkmann said in a video clip posted on the sport ministry’s Facebook page this week.

“I’ve been to check out the course and it’s really great to see all the athletes come out. It’s really exciting to be part of this atmosphere.” The competition opened with a spectacular ceremony and parade of nations on Wednesday, setting the stage for an unforgettable week of world-class competition and celebration.

“On behalf of World Triathlon, I warmly welcome the global triathlon community to the stunning shores of Torremolinos for the 2024 Championship Finals. We are deeply grateful to the local organisers and the wonderful people of this city for their dedication and hospitality in bringing this extraordinary event to life,” says World Triathlon president and IOC member Marisol Casado. “To our athletes, as you prepare to race and represent your nations, know that you are part of something truly special.

“This is your moment to showcase the hard work, passion, and determination that define our sport. We wish you all the best as we celebrate the spirit of triathlon together.”.
