Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio officially opened the renovated Dimapur Town Hall on December 17, 2024 following extensive renovations costing Rs. 19.9 crore.

Built during the 1980s, the structure can accommodate 400 people. In addition to its contemporary exterior, the facility now has upgraded restrooms, a digital projector, central air conditioning, reclining chairs, and a cutting-edge sound system. The renovation was financed under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment, and an amount of Rs 15.

73 crore was contributed to it by the Centre. The state government added an additional Rs 2 crore. Despite redesigning the façade and making structural changes, which caused a delay, the project was finally completed six months later than planned.

During the inauguration, CM Rio praised the renovation for meeting both national and international standards. He went on to reveal that when experts confirmed the structural integrity of the building, plans to demolish it were dropped, making the renovation much cheaper. Rio proposed a management committee headed by the Development Authority of Nagaland (DAN) that will ensure the long-term maintenance of the Town Hall.

The committee will comprise local civil society organizations and the municipal council. The Chief Minister stressed that the renovation of Dimapur Town Hall would be one of the milestones in revamping the public infrastructure of Dimapur as well as all of Nagaland, equipping people within the region with newer infrastructures that will hold potential events and meetings..
