Pune: An unidentified man opened fire at the bungalow of a 36-year-old sugarcane farmer and real estate agent at Wadjai Vasti on Domkhel Road at Wagholi around 4.10am on Wednesday. No one was injured.
The motive behind the firing could not be established immediately, but police suspect it could be the fallout of a property or personal dispute. "Nilesh Satav and his family members were asleep when an unidentified man opened fire onat their row house. The bullet hit the window and fell into the house, but its empty case got stuck in the glass," said additional commissioner of police (east) Manoj Patil.
Patil added that Satav woke up on hearing a loud thud, but his wife told him a perfume bottle might have fallen down. When he moved the curtain to check, he found broken glass pieces and a bullet. He then informed police about the incident.
Satav, who owns huge tracts of land in Wagholi to cultivate sugarcane, told police he did not have a personal enmity or any property or financial dispute with anyone. Patil said Satav's bungalow is located in an isolated place in his farm and there are no CCTV cameras at the spot. Four police teams, including three from Wagholi police station and one from the crime branch, are working on different angles to solve the case, he said.
An FIR was registered under Sections 3 (25) (possession of firearms) and 3 (27) (prohibited arms or ammunition) of the Arms Act. Stay updated with the latest news on Times of India . Don't miss daily games like Crossword , Sudoku , Location Guesser and Mini Crossword .
