A LONGTIME fan of a famous movie franchise has discovered that his poster collection is more valuable than he thought. He got the posters for free as a kid, thanks to his dad, who went with him to see the original Star Wars trilogy premieres. The original trilogy of the legendary franchise notably began with Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, in 1977.

Subsequent sequels included Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983). What's come after that have been two other trilogies, several animated series, spin-off television shows , books , comics, and more. Many still appreciate the originals for kicking off the sci-fi adventure, and the fan brought the four posters he had gotten during the release of the original trilogy with his dad to Antiques Roadshow during a recent episode .

"It was pretty cool — I was 11 when this came out," the fan added, pointing to the Episode IV poster. Most read in Money "So, it was a pretty awesome experience." VERIFIABLE MARKINGS Supp quickly pointed out that "sheet" markings on each of the Star Wars posters made them especially valuable, aside from the near-mint condition the collector had kept them in.

"You've got an original Star Wars one sheet," the appraiser said, pointing to a mark that read "one sheet style A." Both Episode V posters also had the "one sheet" notations with either an A or B identifier. The Episode VI poster also had a "one sheet 830013" marking.

Each helped verify the Star Wars posters' authenticity, as they were from the original batch made when the movies were released. Antiques Roadshow has helped people put a price on their treasures since 1979. "We estimate at auction for these four posters, in this condition — which, they're still in wonderful shape — between $2,000 and $3,000 at auction," the appraiser told him. The collector was stunned, calling the evaluation "impressive." It still wasn't the most valuable Star Wars collection to be looked at by Antiques Roadshow experts, however.
