As cooler temperatures breeze through the Lowcountry, enjoy all of the autumn days you can before the Yuletide fully takes over the Lowcountry with holiday festivities and decorations. Take your furry friends out for the weekend at Paws in the Park to celebrate the Charleston Animal Society's 150th anniversary with fun activities, tasty local dishes and lovable puppies. Or head off to the second annual Ackerman Park Pumpkin Smash and dispose of your carved Halloween decor in a fun and ecologically safe manner.

Celebrate the Charleston Animal Society's 150th anniversary with their largest community fundraising event of the year, Paws in the Park. Come out to Brittlebank Park, 185 Lockwood Drive, Charleston, from noon to 4 p.m.

SUNDAY (NOV. 24) The CharlestonCon pop culture event is returning on Sunday, Nov. 24.

Calling all comic book collectors, cosplayers and anime-lovers for the CharlestonCon pop culture event returning on Sunday, Nov. 24, from 10 a.m.

to 5 p.m. at Ballroom C of the Embassy Suites Hotel, 5055 International Blvd.

, North Charleston. All fandoms are welcome to take part in this special collector's market where there will be an eclectic mix of comics, video games, retro toys, pop culture apparel and more. Throughout the event, there will be various video game tournaments, meet-and-greets with celebrities such as voice actor Phil Parsons and comic artist Mark McKenna, a cosplay contest as well as a toy and comic donation drive for local charities and shelters for this holiday season.

com/224jhkr2 . SUNDAY (NOV. 24) Toss out your old carved pumpkins from Halloween the right way by heading over to the second annual Ackerman Park Pumpkin Smash at the West Ashley Farmers Market.

The main smash event will go from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov.

24 at Ackerman Park, 55 Sycamore Ave., Charleston. The venue requests that attendees bring "clean" pumpkins with all glitter, glue and paint removed.

Such coatings can easily be peeled off with a vegetable peeler if needed. The massive composting event is free to the public and is sponsored by Smart Recycling , which will haul the smashed pumpkins to the Bees Ferry Compost Facility to improve our local gardens.
