At this time of year damp and mould can soon become an issue in people's homes. While reducing the amount of moisture in the air - like opening bathroom windows after showering - is the key to reducing condensation that can quickly lead to the build up of mould, it's inevitable that patches will occur from time to time. It happens in our family bathroom, particularly with teenagers taking extra long showers, and without an extractor fan, it can be tricky to get rid of that excess water.
But when any spots or patches of mould do start to appear there's one spray in particular that really helps to tackle them. Read more: Lidl's £7.99 moisture sucking plant has worked wonders for damp and mould in my home Astonish Mould & Mildew Blaster Spray costs just £1.
50 at Asda - and can be picked up at other stores for a similar price. Astonish Mould & Mildew Blaster (Image: Manchester Family / MEN) It removes the stains without any need to scrub and you only have to leave it on for a few minutes for it to work - longer if it's particularly stubborn. I find the ceiling the trickiest to get to, but I spray some of this on the mop and it helps me get to those hard to reach spots.
That way I don't have the liquid dripping down too, as it can easily stain clothing and other fabrics. Because it's strong you also need to make sure you use it in a ventilated room, so I have the bathroom window wipe open when I'm using it there. It's also come in handy on the bedroom windows, which can also get patches of damp in the corners.
And the good thing about this spray is the amount of surfaces it's suitable for - including walls, UPVC window frames, plastic shower curtains, bathroom tiles, grout, silicone sealant, concrete, sinks and plugholes. Before and after: the clear ceiling and (inset) before the spray was used (Image: Manchester Family / MEN) We still get some damp now and again - without an extractor it's an ongoing battle - but using this regularly clears that surface mould and prevents the build-up we used to see. It's definitely £1.
50 well spent. Don't just take my word for it either, the reviews speak for themselves. Describing it as 'amazing', one Asda shopper said: "I was horrified to find mould and mildew on our window sills this morning.
After a bit of research, I found this spray which unlike many others, is suitable for various surfaces (ie not just for bathroom tiles/grouting etc) so gave it a go. SO easy to use and absolutely thrilled with the results. Instantly gone.
And less than £2?! My mind is blown! Highly recommend." "When I moved house I was faced with a mouldy bathroom - mildew up the walls and thick mould in the shower," said another. "Thought I’d be ages scrubbing it but a good blitz of this stuff (left to get on with it for 10 minutes) and all that horrid mould just dissolved, only had to rub the more stubborn stuff with a cloth.
It really is a wonder product, and not tested on animals which is a bonus." Usually the job needs painting which takes half the day and effort.
I used this product by spraying it onto the ceiling. That was it. "Within 10 mins the mould disappeared.
It was soo good. I wiped it down after with a cloth to get rid of the liquid, however the spray itself did all the work, effortless. Wish I could post before and after pics but can’t.
" I think our before and after pictures say it all. Maybe you can get some of your own..
