THE Motor Vehicle Insurance Limited (MVIL) has opened its sub-branch over the weekend, Saturday, November 16 in Rabaul, East New Britain. The new centre, located on the Ground Floor of the East New Britain Provincial Fisheries Building, will provide Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance, vehicle registration, issuance of driver’s license and Claims services to the people of the Rabaul District and nearby Gazelle. Rabaul mayor Changol Manoai said with the new MVIL office, it now makes it more convenient for vehicle owners in Rabaul, who have to travel all the way to Kokopo to get their vehicles registered.
He urged the people in Rabaul to look after such new developments in the town. “After the eruption, most businesses have packed up and left but I want to commend MVIL for making the bold decision to bring the sub branch to Rabaul,” Mr Manoai said. “Services must be closer to the people, and with the MVIL branch in Kokopo, it is a costly exercise for smaller businesses and SMEs and the little people to move to Kokopo to register their vehicles, so we are happy that you are in town.
“I appeal to people to look after such developments in the town so we can move forward and grow our economy.” MVIL CEO Michael Makap urged vehicle owners in the province that CTP insurance is a compulsory option. CTP insurance is needed to be able to register vehicles.
“It is number one, compulsory when you register your vehicle, RTA (Road Traffic Authority) come set up, we (MVIL) will do CTP and they will do registration,” he said. “This will guard you during accidents, basic compensation protection.” He said that CTP insurance covers the liability of the policy holder (vehicle owner) for injury caused to the passengers and other road.
