Audiences will be Singin' in the Rain this Christmas at Manchester's Royal Exchange. The theatre has announced that the iconic musical will be its festive production for 2025. It will be directed for Raz Shaw who returns to the Exchange after directing a sell-out run of The Producers in 2018.

The show looks at the world of Hollywood as the 'talkies' begin to replace the silent movies told through the eyes of characters Don Lockwood, Lina Lamont, Cosmo Brown and Kathy Selden. The musical - based on the movie starring Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds - includes songs such as Make 'em laugh, Good Morning and Singin' in the Rain. The production will run from November 29 until January 18.

The Royal Exchange has also announced that due to popular demand its major production of Mike Leigh’s Abigail's Party, which opens tomorrow has been extended until Saturday 24 May. This cult classic stars Kym Marsh as Seventies' party hostess Beverley. As part of the Manchester International Festival, the Royal Exchange will see the world premiere of Liberation.

Directed by Monique Touko, the play explores the 1945 Pan-African Congress, 80 years after its residency in Manchester, and how it changed the world forever. The show runs from June 27 to July 26. Completing the Exchange programme will be Brian Friel's award-winning play Dancing at Lughnasa, the first co-production between the Exchange and Sheffield Theatres, which runs from October 11 to November 8.

Tickets for all these productions are now on sale. For more details, visit www.royalexchange.
