Musical festivities begin for Chaitra Sankranti at Suhrawardy Udyan

The event, initiated by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and organised by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, commenced at 4pm with a grand dhol performance by 50 traditional dhuli (drummers) — captivating the urban crowd. The opening act was followed by a lively stick-fighting display (lathikhela), a traditional form of martial art.

The show brings together musical acts from across the country, featuring renowned bands like Warfaze, Vikings, AvoidRafa, Dalchhut, Lalon, Artcell and Stone Free. Also performing are indigenous bands representing various communities: Chimbuk (Marma), Imang (Tripura), Invocation (Chakma), Unity (Khasi), and F Minor (Garo). The opening remarks were delivered by Mohammad Warez Hossain, acting director general of Shilpakala Academy, and Mehjabeen Rahman, director of the BSA's Music, Dance, and Recitation Department.



The event is free and open to the public, with Jonaki Jyoti and Sakib serving as hosts for the evening.
