PHOENIX — It's been two years since a beloved Phoenix teacher and coach was violently murdered on Black Friday. David Denogean, 30, was shot and killed while walking his dog near 12th Street and Maryland Avenue in November 2022. His murder remains unsolved.

“We hate to think this person’s out there and could destroy somebody else’s life," Frank Denogean, his father, said. Phoenix Police shared a surveillance video from that night that shows a man run up to David Denogean, stand in front of him and shoot him. That video and a grainy photo are the only leads investigators have shared about the person suspected of killing him.

"It’s just very difficult to process in this day and age of, you know, modern technology and the way you go about investigating crimes and so on, that for two years we don’t have anything," Frank Denogean said. A lack of movement is discouraging, but not deterring the family's quest for justice. “Justice.

Justice for David. Justice for other people that are out there right now that their cases are unsolved. They’re going through the same pain and misery that we’re going through every day.

It’s not a once-a-year thing. It’s an everyday thing," Frank Denogean said. David Denogean was a beloved teacher and coach at Camelback High School in Phoenix.

“You always hear a person can’t be replaced and David was definitely one of those guys," Frank Deogean said. He was a loving son, brother and uncle. His most recent nephew was born this Black Friday and named in his honor.

“So very ironically that David gets taken away on Black Friday two years ago and then his nephew gets born today," Frank Denogean said. Frank Denogean returns to the spot where his son was killed every Black Friday to pray this will be the year investigators make a break in the now cold case. "It’s not going to bring our son back but just the feeling of knowing that this person can’t do this to somebody else is the only justice we’ll ever get," Frank Denogean said.
