WITH a long-held goal of opening a beauty salon, a mum-of-three made it her mission for the business to be as child-friendly and welcoming as possible.

After working in the beauty industry for six years, Desree Harrison felt that many salons were not particularly inclusive for young mums struggling with childcare issues. From her own experience as a single mum-of-three, and after speaking with many clients, the 29-year-old felt that some mums opted out of beauty treatments as they couldn't afford both a childminder and an appointment. This is why Desree felt it was vitally important that any salon she opened was child-friendly, and the mum-of-three has done just that following the launch of Desired Beauty Studio on George Street in St Helens town centre.

This includes services such as nails, eyelashes, eyebrows, lips, and facial treatments, while a variety of children's toys and playpen can keep any youngster's occupied. As one of Desree's kids has autism, she has also made sure that the venue also caters to any children with special needs, with a handful of sensory toys also available.

"I wanted to create a place where you get the best of both worlds; where you can get any beauty treatments but also have your kids here and know that they're safe." Desree's clients are said to love the child-friendly atmosphere (Image: St Helens Star) Following the launch of Desired Beauty Studio, Desree said that she has been overwhelmed with the feedback for her business model.

The mum-of-three added: "My clients have loved the idea of the salon. I knew it was a struggle for some mums but I didn't realise how big of a deal it was to so many people. "I wanted to offer something different and people seem to love it.

My clients have said it's amazing and they can't believe there aren't many other places like this." After bringing many of her previous clients with her to the George Street business, Desree said that she is surprised to have attracted many new clients in the town centre and plans to soon offer further treatments such as piercing and tattooing..
